What does it mean to be a Rambler?

Being a Rambler is being someone of contradictions. This school can offer many positive experiences, but it does feel that being a Rambler is only good for certain groups of people. If you are not part of a sports team or the “in” cliques, being a Rambler can feel alienating…

Back Packing for France

When packing I will use a 26 inch suitcase to put all of my clothes in.  I would not use a bigger size unless necessary because any size bigger would weigh more than ten pounds which is going to cost me an additional fee. Packing can be one of the very annoying parts of vacationing, especially with all of these airlines having all of these rules to pack. Along with my suitcase I would bring a carry on bag, probably my backpack , and in there it would contain

– Lotion

-Chap stick

-Deodorant

-Toothbrush

-Travel sized toothpaste

-Wash cloth

-Hair brush

I would want to feel as clean as possible at the end of the flight, so I would put deodorant on here and there and brush my teeth. Other things I would bring on the flight is:

– Snacks

-Water bottle

The major key to packing good is to not pack last minute and also to remember you will be able to carry on a carry on. I would pack the following things in my suitcase:

-Jacket

-20 shirts/tops

-6 Pairs of shorts

-12 pairs of socks

-24 pair of underwear

-Swimming Trunks

-Sweater

-Rain Coat

-Coat

-10 pairs of pants

-Durag

-gloves / mittens

-Sun hat

-Regular hat

-Dress shoes

-Walking shoes

-Slides

-4 belts

-toothbrush, mouth wash, floss

-shampoo, bar soap & container

-deodorant

-nail clippers

-washcloth

Backpacker Feature Argentina

A flight from Rio de Janeiro to Argentina would cost me $258

Argentina flight

Once I land in Argentina I would go  straight to my Hotel and wait for the Boca Juniors game later on in the night. I would be staying at the Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires

Argentina hotel

The breakfast there is free so no money needed to be wasted on meals up to dinner. Which I would eat right before I go to the game. Dinner will be eaten at I Latina.

I LAtina.png

I am expecting to waste $90-$100 as said in a reviews section on Tripadvisor.

Once I have eaten I will make my way to La Bombonera, home of Boca Juniors. known for having one of the best atmospheres in football. The passion there is immense. In South America the passion for the sport is uncomparable, not just in a select few countries, but all of South America. La Bombonera is known for their passion, and you will often see fireworks, flares, fans climbing the fences, fights, and endless chanting throughout the whole 90 minutes of the game.

I am expecting to have a lot of fun at La bombonera, Tickets vary on Seating. But I chose to be seated in Sector L of La Bombonera, which will cost me around $215 through a ticket website. I will buy souveniers there, such as a Boca Juniors jersey and possibly a ball. Im expecting to spend around $150 for both. I will be staying at my hotel for the night. Then the next day I will be off to my next destination which is Barcelona, Spain. In Barcelona I will walk around the beautiful city, and Visit the Camp Nou, something I wish to do before i die.

Backpacker Feature Peru & Brazil

I begin my trip taking a flight to Lima Peru, from JFK airport, the ticket will cost me $455 making one stop in Mexico. Once I land in Lima I plan on wasting no time, and will go straight to Estadio Nacional de Lima, where the Peruvian men’s national soccer team play.

Visiting el Estadio Nacional de Lima is on my bucket list. Being able to go to the stadium that I see through the television would be amazing. Not just to me but it would make my father happy.

I would chose to stay in a Hotel, but just for a night and then I would be off to Brazil for my next destination, as this trip is strictly to visit stadiums.

Hotel

I would stay in the Sheraton Lima Hotel which would cost me $159 for the night.

My meals will consist of street food in Lima, that would only cost a few neuvo soles per meal. Im expecting to waste around $20 on food for the day.

The next morning I would take a flight from Lima to Rio de Janeiro and continue my footballing trip to the biggest and most passionate footballing country in the world, Brazil.

Rio de janeiro flight

The flight would cost me $453.

Once I get to Rio de Janeiro, my time would be spent just sightseeing and visiting places where legends of the sport have played as children, playing pick up games and dribbling the ball down the streets of Rio de Janeiro. My time will not be spent seeing the beautiful beaches of Brazil, but will  be spent just admiring the biggest footballing country in the world. As you walk through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, chances are you will encounter street performers. Street performers there are not like the street performers you would see in the United States. In Brazil you would see breathtaking performances of skillful, and entertaining players. You can expect to see people juggling a soccer ball, and the movement these people have with the ball at their feet is as if the ball was a person, and they were dancing with that person. There are also musicians, and a potpourri of performers to see in the streets. But the ones I am only concerned of seeing are the soccer street performers.

My next Destination would be Argentina, where I will visit of the best stadium atmospheres the world has seen.

Feature Article #2 SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Although San Francisco is not geographically big the amount of activities and attractions available are immense and make the City seem like that as well. With it’s rich and interesting history and modern sights, San Francisco is another must when traveling the United States.

After arriving in San Francisco during the morning I would make my way to the San Francisco Marriott in Union Square and check in. the price is about $189 per night but is worth the money. The hotel is already located in union Square, a heavy center filled with shops and attractions. Staff have been known to being very friendly and the food is highly rated.

From there I would first make my way to the Golden gate bridge and walk across. The view of the city the bridge gives is amazing and I would take tons of photos. Plus crossing the bridge is great exercise.

After making my way down from the bridge I would head over to Union Square and do some shopping. I would look for nice pair of pants and if I do decide to buy anything, I would replace them with pair i would already have on. There are a lot of cafes in the plaza Where I could get an excellent cup with some pastries for around $8. I would end the night there and then go back to my room.

When I wake up the next morning, I would eat breakfast at the hotel. I almost eat all the time in the Hotel since the food comes with the room. I would then make my way to the infamous Alcatraz Island. The price of admission is about $37 dollars. To reach the island i would have to take a ferry which really gives in to the no-escape atmosphere Alcatraz emits. The prison itself is large and taking tours inside and outside of it would be interesting. I myself would thrilled since there have been movies based on the island and also video games, so learning about where the stories originated sounds interesting.

On my third day, I would explore the North Beach, which is like the little Italy of San Francisco. The place is known for it’s authentic Italian Cuisine and museums. I would go eat at Calzone’s and enjoy a mushroom and pepperoni thin crust pizza for about $4 a slice. The place is comfy and has a street view. After that I would visit local museums and check out paintings and sculptures. After having my fun in Italy, I would go to china in San Francisco’s own Chinatown. I would explore the exotic shops, marketplaces, and temples. I would also like to try out the street food and satisfy my craving for pork dumplings.

My last day in San Francisco would spent relaxing and taking a break from all the walking I would have done. So what better way than sitting down for hours. My last place to hit would be the Orpheum Theatre and watch whatever production they have that day. The theatre is well-known and huge, with comfortable seating and prices ranging about $64 dollars. Later that same day I would make my way to the airport and head on to the next city.

To France and Italy!

After having an amazing time in Spain, it was time to go catch my next flight to France. Only costing me $46, it was less of a travel to get there since the flight was less than 3 hours. Arriving in Paris, I took a taxi to the hotel I would be staying at, the Hotel La Tamise.

Again, another beautiful hotel I was happy to be staying at. I arrived during the day and wasn’t so tired, so I decided to start touring around early to go sightseeing. The first place I decided to go see was the Luxembourg Gardens. The flowers surrounding the area made it so much more vivid, filling the grass with colors everywhere. IT was an extremely kid friendly place, including a fenced in sand pit and a merry go round where kids could catch rings and spin around all day.

The next night, I decided to go and visit the world famous Eiffel tower. I wanted to see it at night so I could see it with the lights turned on and really capture the beauty. For 15 euros, it was definitely worth the wait.

I was definitely going to get hungry in Paris, s one of the new things I decided to try was escargot, or snails! One of the best places to get escargot from is L’Escargot Montorgueil. They also have plenty of other choices to offer, incase I don’t end up liking snails.

After spending a long week in France, it was time to take my travels to my next destination: Italy! I took another flight to Venice, which cost me $35. When I arrived in Venice, I took a cab to the Hotel Moresco, where I would be staying for the last part of my journey.

The next day, I decided to venture out to see what Venice had to offer. I decided to visit Saint Mark’s Basilica. This is one of Venice’s famous cathedrals, so I wanted to see what it had to offer.

Veneza47

I can not just visit Venice without taking a gondola ride! So I decided to go for one of those next.

Gondola-Ride

Being in the gondola gives you a different experience on how to view everything around you. It proved to be pretty spectacular to me.

Since Venice mostly has sights to offer, I decided to go grab something to eat and see how it would be. I was quite excited to try some authentic Italian food. I decided to go eat at Dal Moro’s since you are meant to take the food with you to go. The lines were quite long, but after receiving the food, I can see why. People are not lying when they say that pasta in Italy is better than anywhere else!

My last stop in Italy before my trip would come to an end was to go see show at Teatro La Fenice. I always wanted to see an opera show live, so I figured why not!teatro-fenice-venezia

As my travels come to an end,  I can say that I truly had a great time going from country to country and seeing many sights that most people spend their whole lives without seeing. It was a marvelous experience that I would definitely do again!

Backpacking in Peru

After hiking a volcano in Ecuador, I felt it was necessary to travel to Peru  and of course have a day dedicated to  the glorious Machu Picchu. Because who doesn’t want to explore Machu Picchu, honestly? I will be staying at a hotel in Cusco, Peru called Hotel Ruinas. It is stated to be a  “a 3 star hotel, with a high level of service and commodity.” The photos on the hotel’s website seem absolutely gorgeous, perfect for a long stay in Peru.

http://www.hotelruinas.com/

It is best suggested to hire a guide to lead me  throughout Machu Picchu, so that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Once I arrive in Peru the first day will be dedicated to traveling to Machu Picchu. I’ve always wanted to see the beautiful place in person. Pictures cant do Machu Picchu justice enough. I found a tour on tripadvisor.com. For $285 I will be guided throughout Machu Picchu. Included is the actual entrance to the place, a local guide, and a small group to enjoy the beautiful place with me. Of course a lot of pictures will be taken. Theres so much to to learn and know, so questions will be asked too.

Because the tour doesn’t include food, I will bring a few power bars and granola bars and sandwhiches and some water bottles to keep and munch on while walking around Machu Picchu. After traveling around Machu Picchu I will most likely travel back to my hotel, Hotel Ruinas, to rest and eat. Within my hotel there is a restaurant called the  Rumi Restaurant,  so I don’t have to go far to eat. Hotel Ruinas cusco

Feature Article #2

One of the best places that I went to , and is my favorite was Hawaii. Hawaii is really nice and it is worth visiting. The beaches are clear and you can see everything in the water. When I went there, my friend and I went to visit multiple places but our top two was visiting the Memorial they had for Pearl Harbor and a cool water park. The very first day we got there we visited the memorial for Pearl Harbor, which was along the water. When we got there, our ticket cost will be nothing. We would get a tour once we get our tickets. The tour will last about 1 hr and 15 minutes. In the place they have food and drinks, after our tour we ate food and relaxed a little bit. Hawaii is like paradise, it is hot over there and the people over there are very nice. We stayed at a hotel called White Sands hotel, and we are staying there for three nights. The next day will be our relaxing day and just go out for dinner in the evening. The restaurant that we are going to is called yard house restaurant. They have all different types of food. Which is pretty good. The following day we will go to the water park. The Wet’n’ Wild water park in Honolulu is one of the top ten most visited by families around the world. All the rides were cool to go on everyone enjoyed it. The tickets cost, $49.99 per person. For two people it will be $100 , which is not that bad compared to the tickets we pay in New jersey. And the price of the tickets were worth it because it was very exciting to go on the rides. Also, we enjoyed good food over there, their food is mostly food we would eat I New jersey if we went to great Adventure or something. They have different areas for food. One area is if you want to have alcoholic beverages, one is for food like pizza chicken and fries, the other one is for just snacks. The way they decorate the dinning area is nice also.  They have a shopping area where you can get some things, such s the sur shop is where you would get your swim gear. davey Jones Locker is st where you can get life jackets and pay a fee of $20.00 to rent a locker to put your stuff in it. The good thing about the locker is that it is refundable if you still have your receipt and return the life jacket. We would stay at the water park from, 10:30 am -5:00pm. So we can go back to the hotel and relax. One of the beaches that we went to was, Lanikai beach, Oahu. Which had clear water and the view of the beach is nice. Our transportation will be a taxi cab. Which take us thoughout our journey around Hawaii. Hawaii a friendly place and evryone is greets you with their kindness.

Feature Article #1 ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Between all the states in the country Florida has to be one of the most exciting and fun among them with it’s young atmosphere, various theme parks, and vivid nightlife, it is a must stop for those planning to travel and get to know more of the United States.

My trip across the US begins in New Jersey where I will take a flight to Orlando early in the morning for $234. I will arrive before the afternoon when I get there and hurriedly take a cab to the Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando Downtown. They charge $190 but the price is well worth it. They have and outdoor pool, incredible rooms, and are close by to attractions.

After getting settled in my room i would make my way to Wonderworks. The indoor amusement park is filled with cool oddities and a lot of interactive attractions. I would go ride the roller coasters and go experience their 4D theater. The price of admission is about $26.99 plus tax but it is well worth to explore the facility and all it has to offer.

From there I would spend a couple of hours before going to eat at Agave Azul, a Mexican cuisine restaurant. The place is well known for their Latin infused dishes and trying them would be amazing to see how modern and old plates can be infused together. I would go when it is dark since the place really comes alive at night with vibrant lights and people. The overall atmosphere is very comfortable and I would spend around $50. I would then return to my hotel room.

On my second day I would wake up early, enjoy the breakfast the hotel has to offer and go to Universal Studios.  The price for the ticket is about $155, but it is well worth it. Exploring the vast theme park takes various hours, so this will take up the whole day. I would ride on various roller coasters and interactive rides like the Hulk roller coaster or the Escape from gringotts ride. After getting my adrenaline pumping I would make my way to Wizarding World of Harry Potter and submerse myself in the magic. I would go buy my own wand ($50) and wander around hogwarts and try out all the realm’s cuisine. After nerding out for hours i would finish my day by going the City Walk and get ice cream and coffee in the shops. I would also buy clothes or anything else I see worth spending money on. I would then return back to my room.

For my third day, i would like to take it easy for a but since I would be exhausted from Universal Studios and go to Disney springs. There is no admissions fee, and the complex is vast. There are shops, restaurants, outdoor entertainment, and tons of visual attractions to see. Walking around and sitting for one of the daily outdoor theater shows would be relaxing and a great place to take pictures. There is also a Ghirardelli’s shop where the ice cream is to die for, although quite pricey for about $8 a cone.

As for my fourth day I would start packing up spend the day in the hotel in the pool and sleeping. My next flight to the next city, Chicago, Illinois, would be during the evening. Orlando is a lot of fun and definitely worth the stay.

Madrid, Spain

For my first stop in my travels I will be visiting Spain, mainly Madrid. A one way ticket from Newark to Madrid will cost me $1,707. After a long 12 hour flight, I finally reached my first destination of my travels. Since I would be spending a week here, I thought I would splurge and stay in a nice hotel. I chose to take a taxi to the Hotel Atlantico Madrid for $119 a night.es_mad_0032_084_9

double-superior-room-07

The hotel offers everything from continental breakfast to breathtaking views. Not to mention that it is also less than a mile away from some of Madrid’s most popular tourist locations! After my long flight, I had experienced major jet lag and wanted to get some rest so I could fully enjoy my first day in Spain.

After doing some research, I knew that the one thing I wanted to do while I was in Madrid was shop. So I went to none other than Gran Via, translated to “Great Way”, located in central Madrid. This street contained most of the action, also being nicknamed the street that never sleeps. Most of my shopping was done at the upscale stores on Gran Via. While shopping, I had the pleasure to see many new sights such as the beautiful Metropolis building.1896384436_b78686bba3_z

The next day, I decided to go back to Gran Via to just sightsee. I could not get enough of how many beautiful, tall buildings Madrid has and all the history behind them. Such as the Plaza de Espana, where I happened to see a lot of tourists.23771_madrid_wolkenkratzer_am_dem_plaza_de_espana

The next day, I took a hike to visit the Prado museum, where I could see some famous paintings in person and truly take in their excellence. Prado-Museum-Madrid

It was truly an amazing experience. I was able to see such beautiful paintings such as “las meninas” by Velazquez.

Of course while going to all of these different places, I’m going to start to feel hungry. I chose to go to Alright, where I was served some of the BEST food I have ever eaten. They had multiple courses served to me, at one point I felt like I was going to explode. The food was somewhat similar to things seen in the US, such as burgers with fries or ribs, but the flavors and the presentation made me feel like I was eating at a five star restaurant! It was truly amazing.

One of the last things I decided to do in Madrid was to take a tour of the Bernabeu Stadium. It cost me 44 euros but it was exciting to see the stadium where all of the intense soccer games are held. default

On the tour, they took us to see everything in the stadium since we had no limits. I was able to go through the tunnel where all of the players run out of to go on the field, and I was able to run onto the field! It was such  fun experience to me since I used to play soccer when I was younger. Never would I have thought that I would set foot on one of the most famous soccer fields in the world.

With my trip to Madrid ending shortly, I decided to pack all of my things the night before to prepare for my next destination: France!
