The most common Halloween costume that most women pick is the police costume. This costume has different types there are the regular and sexy versions of the costume. But this costume, influences little girls to dress up like this. For example, some women would dress up as a sexy version of the costume and the little girls may think it is ok to wear that. The little girls may think that the costume is the adult version when the costume is the sexy version.Little girls will ask their parents that they would want that costume when they get bigger. This type of costume also put a lot of attention to the guys who like that kind of costumes for women. Here are some examples of the costume.

Do you see the difference in how we portray female workers and male workers? Why do we have to exploit women like this? Sure, you may say “Well, It’s just for Halloween. And It’s supposed to be funny. What’s the big deal?”

The big deal is that important jobs like being a nurse should not be portrayed as women in tiny dresses and lingerie type clothing with a red cross on each boob. This is insulting to people who actually do the job every single day and I bet you, the job is more than looking sexy and wearing high knee socks with 6 inch heels. If you want to get sexy this year, go ahead but don’t do it this way. There are so many other possibilities out there to get more creative. Let’s try to be more than sexy this Halloween.

Sexy Nurse Costumes

Every Halloween there’s always a simple costume that is turned “sexy” for women. The nurse costume just so happens to be one of the most popular. Not only is it inaccurate but it could also offend some nurses. Seeing these costumes and comparing them to what nurses actually wear could make you laugh. It makes me wonder if the people who designed the costumes even know what a nurse looks like.

Represents what some nurses actually wear on the job.

The designers thinks that placing the red cross symbol on lingerie automatically makes her a nurse. I understand that some women want to be sexy for Halloween but why go for a costume that is completely inaccurate. There are some many more “sexy” costumes out there.

Nurses should be portrayed as sexy or seductive when it comes to their job. These costumes don’t represent any type of professionality. Nurses should be respected more for the hard work they do for the ill.

The Sexualization of Women and Monsters in Halloween Costumes

It is that time of year again, when sweater weather kicks in, the leaves start to fall, carving jack-o’-lanterns is socially acceptable, and you get to answer that infamous question of, “What are you supposed to be?” on Halloween with:

 

Yes, it is that time of year when girls get to dress like “sluts” and not have anyone judge them for it. To be honest, I really do not care if a costume is sexualized or not. Everyone has the right to express themselves yet society judges those who wear “revealing” clothes–take the countless controversies over Bratz dolls for example. Society shames women, and even men, for wearing clothes that reveal “too much skin”.

Although I do believe everyone has the right to express themselves, Halloween costumes are definitely not as gender neutral as they should be. Nearly ever occupation costume advertised for men shows an accurate portrayal of what those occupations are. For women, it is much, much different. Nearly every occupation costume made for women is short in more ways than one. Short sleeves, short legs, short collar; you name it, it is short. It is definitely not fair for women in normal working fields such as teachers, police officers, lawyers, nurses, doctors, and even politicians to be sexualized.

Women’s occupation costumes are not the only to get the “sexy” treatment. A recent trend in the costume industry is the production of sexy monster costumes. When I write monster, I mean movie monsters or characters who could be classified as horror characters such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhes, Michael Myers, and even Chucky! Take a peek at some of these ridiculous “sexy” costumes below:

If you really wanted to be a sexy serial killing doll, at least go for Tiffany. And “Sexy Ms. Krueger” could easily just be a sexy nun costume! (Only fans of the Elm Street series will understand.)

I am all for letting anyone where whatever they want because equality, y’know? But there does come a point where this sexy Halloween I’m-gonna-be-a-bunny-hooker costume trend becomes ridiculous and is kind of degrading to women. I mean, who says a woman can not be the actual Freddy Krueger, or the actual Chucky, or the actual Ghostface? I guess I may never figure it out. But, we have to admit, that Ghostface masquerade-type mask is killer. Literally.

Halloween costume trend

Men are able to find the appropriate costume on halloween. But women seem to have a hard time looking for the normal version of any costume. Every female costume seems to be “Sexy firefighter”, “Sexy policewoman”, “Sexy pirate”. Why not just “firefighter”, “Policewoman”, or “pirate”? Why always “sexy”? It gets even more offensive when it comes to sexy native american costumes, because native americans are a group of people around today.

The costume of the Native American female, not only offensive, is also inaccurate to their culture. It could be just as offensive as black facing.

Then there are completely unnecessary costumes like the sexy version of a food. Such as a Sexy Corn costume.

These costumes make absolutely no sense. Why is there even a sexy version of corn? Why is corn sexy?

The costumes get worse, because even when it comes to tween girls, the costumes seem very revealing for a person at such a young age. Kids should be covered up, they have nothing to show yet.

These costumes are very inappropriate. The skirts should not be that short on a girl still learning the difference between using “they’re, their, and there” in a sentence.

Halloween Costume

 There are new trends all around this fall for Halloween but in particular this trend caught my eye by how wrong it actually is. This is the nerd trend for Halloween and as many may think a nerd is weird, geeky, ugly, and many other descriptions. But it seems to differ during the Halloween season depending on what gender you are. For the men its pushes more towards being an actual ugly nerd. But for women it pushes more towards being a sexy nerd. To me i feel it is wrong because it portrays the wrong image for the costume and the theme of Halloween itself. It is degrading to many women and sends off a disrespectful message rather then just Halloween fun.

Caitlyn Jenner – Costume

Caitlyn Jenner was a big controversy nationwide that is still talked about in blogs and sites worldwide. It grew so popular that recently I myself bumped into a Caitlyn Jenner costume in Spirit Halloween. I personally found it amusing and I don’t really care who buys it. But, most parents don’t feel that it should be sold in the stores because they don’t want their sons to want to dress up as a woman. Jenner’s emerging gender identity was revealed in a ‘Vanity Affair’ interview written by Buzz Bissinger. Annie Leibovitz photographed the cover, the magazine’s first to feature an openly transgender woman, which was captioned “Call me Caitlyn”.Using her new Twitter, she tweeted that she was “so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.” She amassed over one million Twitter followers in just over four hours, setting a new Guinness World Record and surpassing United States President Barack Obama, who, a month before, accomplished the same feat in four and a half hours.Four days later Jenner was up to 2.37 million followers, with another 1.5 million followers on Instagram. In August 2015, she won the Social Media Queen award at the Teen Choice Awards.

Pentatonix

The pentatonix is an American a cappella group, from Arlington,Texas. They formed in 2011 to participate in the show The sing-off on NBC. The same year, they won the third season of the sing-off and won $200,000. They started doing covers of artist songs and making them into their own beats. There are five members of the group, Ari Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olvsola, and Mitch Grassi. Their music  of pop style, beatboxing, vocal bass lines, diverse range of vocal percussion and sometimes from melodies along with the original material of the covers. In 2012 they released their first debut album  EP PTX , Volume 1, followed by PTXmas the same year. Their third release, PTX, Vol.2, which came to number 1 on Billboard’s independent albums chart and number 10 on Billboard 200 in 2013. In 2014, they released PTX Vol. 3 , and two full length studio albums. The reason why they’re popular is the way they make covers of songs and turn them into their own mix by adding beatboxing and Dubstep.  The Pentatonix have a lot of fans that are willing to buy all their CDs. Which is why they decided to start a 2015 tour, the tour’s name would be “On My Way Home Tour”. Also their new CD will consist of more creativity and their own original songs instead of making covers of artists. The way they sing their songs are a lot different from others because it is more upbeat, soft, happy, and positive, which makes the song sound good. The Pentatonix do have singles from their albums, one of the singles is from their second album, PTX Vol 2 called ” Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, which was a cover the Pentatonix made. Their second single was a melody of Daft Punk songs which was a single from youtube. From 2015 and present they will be making an album consisting their own songs. Hope to see them progress throughout the years. Their next CD will be released October 16, 2015.

The Complete 20/20 Experience

Released on September 30th 2013, Justin Timberlake’s album  The Complete 20/20 Experience captures several different aspects of his music style. The Complete 20/20 Experience shows more of a funk factor compared to his first installment of his album. It also includes more songs, making the album 2 hours and 45 minutes. The album can be categorized as pop/rock, R&B, and dance-pop. During an interview with American radio and television host Ryan Seacrest, Timberlake explained the meaning behind the album’s title saying, “It more or less came out of I was playing some of the stuff for my friends and they would come in and out of the studio and I’d say, ‘What do you think of this?’ And my best friend said, ‘This is music that you can see,’ and for some reason that stuck with me.”

Each song, mainly based on Justin Timberlake’s sex life, is completely varied from the next. Starting with “Pusher Love Girl”, it compares a girl and his love for her to the addiction of several different types of drugs. The album’s lyrics mostly deal with the theme of romance. The songs feature different metaphors for sex, including drugs on “Pusher Love Girl”, candy on “Strawberry Bubblegum”, and outer space on “Spaceship Coupe”. With “Spaceship Coupe” and “That Girl”, he takes old school Motown influences and mashes them together with fresh bass lines. The two songs “Don’t Hold the Wall” and “Let the Groove Get In” take tribal drums, middle eastern wind instruments, and strings to a new level which convinces anyone to get up and dance.

A review written by the Rolling Stone wrote this about Timberlake’s single “Blue Ocean Floor”: “The closing “Blue Ocean Floor” has no beat as such, and not much of a melody – just stray percussion coloring a wash of psychedelic sounds. Timberlake sings, “If my red eyes don’t see you anymore/And I can’t hear you through the white noise/Just send your heartbeat out there to the blue ocean floor.” If you had to categorize it, you’d call it an abstract ambient soul ballad.”

Following the album, FutureSex/ Lovesounds, Justin Timberlake, being the amazing artist as he is, has yet again released another album for the records.

Music Review

Many artists have different styles of music whether it’s pop, rap, or jazz. The Weeknd produces pbr&b music and that’s a term journalist use to describe a stylistic alternative to R&B. The Weeknd released his album Beauty Behind the Madness on July 4th. This album does contain explicit language, but overall is a good album. He worked with multiple people some being Lana Del Ray, Labrinth, and Ed Sheeran. The Weeknd is Canadian and has been around since 2013. His first album was called Kiss land. He became famous by posting some of his videos on youtube and was released under Republic Records and as well as his own label XO.

After his first album came out he began working on his 2nd album Beauty Behind the Madness which was his first number one album on the Billboard 200. Some of the songs on the album was Earned It, The Hills, and also Can’t Feel my Face. These songs have hit the top 3 spots on the Billboard Hot R&B songs chart, making him the first artist to ever do this. If you have ever listened to The Weeknd you would see that almost all his songs have something to do with drugs and just everyday life. For example, he says in his song can’t feel my face “I know she will be the death of me, at least we will both be numb.” Obviously he is insinuating that they are both on drugs. This is a reflection of him because it shows the things he struggles with daily. My opinion on this album is it’s really good. There are many artist similar to the Weeknd such as Drake. If I had to rate this album I would give it a 9 out of 10. In my honest opinion I don’t think The Weeknd’s fans will be disappointed. If you like The Weeknd you will like this album.
