Banned Books

Should “To Kill A Mockingbird” be banned? Many people believe it should be taken out of the school curriculum. Those reasons are the language content it has, racial discrimination, as well as rape. Many parents are saying the books promotes all these things and they don’t want their kids to be introduced to that. On the other hand many people are saying that just because a behavior is in print doesn’t necessarily mean you have to follow that action. For many people the whole racial profiling thing in the book is one of the major problems. But in the book it doesn’t tell you discriminate against somebody. The author of the book isn’t giving her perspective on the situation, it’s just what was going on in that given time. In my honest opinion I believe this book should not be banned from the school curriculum. A character from the book stated that most people are nice once you actually get to know them. “To Kill A Mockingbird” makes you think also that you shouldn’t judge somebody until you really get to know them. Therefore “To Kill A Mockingbird” should not be banned from schools, libraries, etc.

Banned Underpants Book

captain-underpants-badgeThe book Captain Underpants was the most banned book in the country in 2012 passing Fifty Shades of Grey. It was banned by mostly parents of elementary school kids. The parents filed reports and complaints about the book having offensive language, partial nudity, violence, and threats throughout the 10 part series. In my opinion the book should have never been banned. This book is a children’s series and should be taken lightly. Children are going to read the book for laughs and entertainment throughout it. There are no extremes in the book what so ever and if there are any they are taken to the highest degree which they shouldn’t be. Children aren’t going to pay attention to captain underpants beating robots up as “killing or murder”. If they do then many cartoons should be banned as well because there are worst things then that , that actual kids are seeing on television.

Captain Underpants

In 2012 Captain Underpants was the most banned book in America. The book is about two fourth grade troublemakers George and Harold that like to cause pranks. Mr. Krupp is the principal in the story, he was hypnotized by George and Harold to act like Captain underpants and he did just that, and begins to fight crime. The book was banned for being unsuited to series’ target age readers. According to parents there is Offensive language, partial nudity, violence, misbehavior, and blackmail/threats. Examples of Offensive language is when they called the school principle “That old guy”. The story is about a hero in his underwear and wearing a cape, and that is all the partial nudity that there is in the story. An example of violence is when George and Harold save each other from evil robots by hitting them with wooden planks. Mr. Krupp blackmailed the kids when he had footage of them pranking the football team, and threatened to show the football team the footage if they did not do everything he said. In my opinion i do not think the book should have ever been banned. It was a part of my childhood, and i absolutely loved it. Parents tend to overreact when it comes to their kids and this is a perfect example of that.

Gucci Fall 2015 Ready To Wear

GUC_0385Guccigucci

Gucci’s approach this fall seems to be pretty casual. In the fashion industry, their styles don’t seem as outlandish as one may expect. It looks like something that can easily be turned into a casual, every day outfit for the average person. They seem to have a lot of women wearing suits and men wearing bright colors. These two things compliment each other very well. The colors are very dark and autumn toned, most likely to match the color of leaves falling or the general vibe you get when fall begins. A lot of their tops are transparent and you can see the women wearing them completely bare underneath which is a bold choice. I really do like the use of scarves and other casual wear like hats on the models. Accessories like that truly string together an outfit, and it looks amazing. I think that Gucci really outdid themselves with this new set and that it’ll take a lot to top it.

2015 Fall Trends!

These are the looks for fall 2015, mostly seen in stores such as forever 21 and H&M. makeup is mostly seen in Mac makeup stores. prices do vary depending on where you go. But its pretty cheap if you chose wisely. The hair is the ombre look, this hair do is pretty expensive. If you go to the salon they would most likely charge you about $65 just to get it done. The cheaper way is if you know how to do it yourself and you can buy the box of hair dye for about $12. Every girl has their own style, but no girl would wanna be fashionably late on the latest trends!

Classy Is The New Formal

Banned Books Week

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky has been challenged over the past few years for its content. This incredible coming of age story touches on topics such as — depression, sexuality and abuse — things that many teens are going through today. Parents have complained that this book and its content is not suitable for their 8th grade and high school students.

I feel this book should not be banned or challenged. This book should be read by every teenager because it talks about things that we go through everyday whether it be depression or our own sexuality. Books like these can actually help people dealing with situations similar to the situations in the book. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a great book for teens to connect to and that shouldn’t be taken away.

The Most Ridiculous Hair Trend of 2015

In what can only be described as the most God-awful hair trend of our generation, people have turned to split-dyeing their hair. Split-dyeing is the process of dyeing one side of your hair one color, and doing the other side in a color that is in complete and utter contrast. Split-dyeing may sound good in theory, but in reality, it just makes people look like indecisive, colorblind mermaids. It is outrageous. If you’re going to dye your hair, at least make it one consistent color, or do a nice ombre. Don’t split your head down the middle: it wasn’t cute for Cruella de Vil, and it isn’t cute for you, honey. This is one trend that I hope dies a painful death with the coming of the new year, but I know that it will be replaced with something even more ridiculous.

Thug Life/ Street Wear

This trend is street wear and it had alot of baggy clothing, army fatigue, sneaker and urban looks. This is a very popular style in high schools worldwide. Tupac represents alot of thug life material.

burn the classics?

Controversy in media is widely known. Reporters, authors, artists, have to all be weary of their content as they might catch the flames of the public. But what shocks many people is the fact that many great works have been banned at one point. Classics such as the Great Gatsby have suffered under the ban stamp from baptist colleges in South Carolina in 1987 for having sexual references and multiple curse words. Many though argued that banning literally classics such as the Great Gatsby serves no purpose, as other forms of explicit topics or images can be viewed. Also, under the controversial word choice and imagery, a story presents the reader with life lessons and morals to live by. Books bring out the good and bad of human nature, and looking at both sides is important to become a better person. Books should not be banned for their content, as far worse media can be easily accessed.
