Alex and Sierra “It’s About Us”

It’s About Us is the debut album of Pop duo Alex & Sierra. Overall I loved the album even though there were some songs that were not exactly the type of music I would like, but they made up for it with other heartfelt songs such as “Bumper cars” and “Little do you know”. The Duo consists of the couple Alex Kinsey (Guitar and vocals) and Sierra Deaton (Vocals). They first appeared into the public together on the show The X-Factor USA in 2013. They immediately caught the viewers and judges attention with their audition singing “Toxic” with their own take on it. The single “Scarecrow” was the first song they released prior to the album. The song reflected what they did on the The X-Factor USA, an emotional song, it was upbeat but the message the song was saying was not. They released “Its About Us” in 2014. It is the first album they have released, and they received massive help and support from great artists such as John Legend, and Jason Mraz. They have a song “It’s About Us”, and the song is exactly what the title says. The song could also be seen as a reply to those fans who were expecting the album to be full of slow emotional songs. The album is about them. The people who voted for them on the X-Factor loved their slow, emotional takes on songs, so of course they had to incorporate that feel into the album. Their most popular song is exactly that, “Little Do You Know” has that slow melody with emotional lyrics like “Little do you know how i’m trying to pick myself up piece by piece”  After “Little Do You Know” the song that follows is “Cheating”. They added “Cheating” to take the listener away from the sadness of “Little Do You Know”. “Cheating” is a fun upbeat song. They said they don’t like to write sad songs, because they enjoy being happy and upbeat,  but since the viewers want emotional songs they had to incorporate that type of music. So songs like “Cheating”, “Just Kids”, “Here We Go” and “Give me Something” really added relief in the album and showed the type of music they prefer. What is unique about the album is that all the songs are different. They don’t all sound exactly the same, there’s a lot of variety. There are not many duo’s like Alex and Sierra, throughout the season of The X-Factor USA, the judges kept saying how there is no one on the market like them. On a scale of 1-10 i rate the album an 8, because i think the song “Cheating” although fun for them, is an odd song to add to the album because of the country feel. I believe fans were very pleased with the album.
