International Political Cartoon Analysis

In 2015 every fan of soccer knew that FIFA was corrupt, and were just waiting for it to come out. When the arrests of FIFA officials were made it made news everywhere. These people had been holding the progression of the sport back so they could get their hands on extra money.

Blatter suspended

This political cartoon comes from Jordan, the artist is HAJJAJ. A red card in the sport of soccer means that you are suspended from the game. The man in the drawing is Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, or currently ex-president, but at the time of the drawing he had just announced his resignation. The resignation came after the FIFA presidential elections, in which Blatter won. His presidency in FIFA could almost be compared to a dictatorship because it was a given he was going to win no matter who he ran against.

After his resignation there were hopes that he would be arrested because of the FIFA corruption scandals that were going on. His colleagues were being arrested and the world was just waiting to see Blatter’s name on the list of those arrested.

Blatter on FIFA

This cartoon by PISMETROVIC comes from Austria. The cartoon shows blatter sitting on a ball representing Fifa. The ball seems to be dead, kind of like Blatter killed FIFA. Which is exactly what has been happening. Blatter has been killing the sport for a while now. In the 2013 Ballon d’or voting, the voting had closed. But it was obvious that the voting had been extended so that Cristiano Ronaldo could win it over Lionel Messi. This action by FIFA had tainted the most prestigious personal award in the beautiful sport. There were a lot of suspicions over the extension. A lot of outrage too, because the voting had been closed, the voting was over, and they extended it to favour a player. The player did have a great year, but one performance late in the year should not have had the voting extended. Blatter is a poison to FIFA, and fans of the sport are happy to see him gone.

The future of the sport is bright without Blatter in charge.
